Tough day at Hutt Rec

While the sun was shining on another stunning autumn afternoon, the results at Hutt Rec weren't so hot from a Marist St Pats perspective.

Our Premier Men dropped their first game of the season going down 22-45 to Hutt Old Boys Marist. Conceding two tries in the first 10 minutes put the side on the back foot from where they couldn't recover. The return home to host the Axemen next Saturday for our Club Day.

Earlier, the Colts were very competitive in their match against unbeaten HOBM but ultimately went down by 26-41. This game was played for the inaugural McGuinness Shield.

The McGuinness Shield was donated by the McGuinness family to honour the significant contribution of the late Peter McGuiness made as a Life Member of Hutt Old Boys Marist and his connection to Marist St Pats through his brother Brian McGuinness (Life Member of Marist St Pats). Brian was on hand to speak to our team before the game and present the shield to HOBM.

Our Premier Reserves will be licking their wounds after a heavy 7-98 defeat to HOBM, while the Under 85s also went down to our Marist cousins by 12-66.

Back in the city, it was the Internationals with the lone victory for round five of rugby, staying unbeaten after taking down Western Suburbs by 27-0. The Presidents had a bye.

On the Netball courts, MSP 2 went down by 30-31 to Nga Mokopuna 2. The result for MSP 1 was not available at time of publishing.

Our rugby sides will be looking to get back on track in front of a big home crowd for our Club Day next Saturday 11 May. Come out to support our teams and enjoy the company of our community.
