After early rain threatened to spoil Club Day, the sun came out late morning for an afternoon for entertaining rugby.
Our Premier Men acknowledged the Old Timers before heading into a serious contest with some familiar faces playing for Wellington. It was the Axemen who struck first with a penalty and a try, with the Red Machine needing to regain composure and score on half time to take the narrowest of leads at 14-13.
The Axemen would again strike first, almost immediately after half time to retake the lead, but Sam Connor ensured the home side to again edge in front scoring only minutes later. From there it was an arm wrestle for 20 minutes until Christopher Simone broke the stalemate scoring off the back of a driving maul. Minutes later, a ruck time steal from Milan Kriletich set up Grayson Whitman to put the game beyond doubt. A try in a final minutes saw the final score at 35-27.
Earlier, the Premier Reserves (24-12) and Colts (48-17) ensured the top three teams all earned victories over Wellington. The Under 85s had a tough loss by 19-43 to Wellington.
The Presidents were hosting Hutt Old Boys Marist over at Polo Ground and came away with a 24-12 win.
It was split results for the Netballers with Netball 1 beating Marsden by 26-10 and Netball 2 having a very narrow loss to Vic 8 by 23-26.
With the sports results in the books, it was onto the clubrooms to celebrate our Club Day. Supporters were treated to a jam packed clubrooms with our Junior and Senior clubs coming together to enjoy each others company. All in all, a rousing success!
