On a perfect autumn afternoon in the capital, all Marist St Pats teams came out victorious for an afternoon of perfect results.
Our Premiers extended their unbeaten start to the season to four matches after taking down Wainuiomata on Evans Bay Park by 41-10.
A young Wainuiomata side brought plenty of first half energy playing an exciting and physical brand of rugby and found the Red Machine ready for the task. After Rique Miln opened the scoring with a rarely seen drop goal, it was Milan Kriletich who would cross the line first - finding his way to the corner after a beautiful chip and chase from winger Viliame Saukuru. The next try was one for the purists, with Charlie Hankins finishing a driving maul. Half time score was 15-3 to Marist St Pats.
After a competitive first half, it was largely one way traffic in the second with four tries scored by the home side. Saukuru got a try of his own, followed by tries to Francis Mettrick, Christopher Simone and Rheuben Meredith (the latter on debut).
The victory sees Marist St Pats sit atop the Swindale Shield table and the last remaining unbeaten side after four rounds. They face a stern test next weekend against Hutt Old Boys Marist at Hutt Rec.
Earlier on Evans Bay Park, the Colts got back in the winners column with a dominant 50-14 win over Wainuiomata. While over the road on Kilbirnie Park, the Premier Reserves got their first win of the season, beating Wainuiomata by 36-7.
In the second 2.45pm kick off, the Internationals also kept their unbeaten run intact with a 29-5 win over Wainuiomata. The Under 85s and Presidents had a week off.
This weekend also marked the start of the Netball season, with Marist St Pats again fielding two sides. The two teams ensured the club was unbeaten on the day with the 1st team beating Newlands 2 by 44-15 and the 2nd side beating SMOG 7 by 20-16.
