The Newstalk ZB Justin du Fresne Memorial Debate

The Background:

On August 25th 2016, an iconic broadcaster, family member, associate or mate, was lost with Justin losing his battle with cancer.

It has been a massive loss to many. This was typified when in excess of 500 people attended his funeral at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Paraparaumu.

Justin was the consummate professional broadcaster spanning his 50 year career.

He will be remembered, and he deserves to be remembered, and we want to enhance that memory by instituting a humorous debating series.

(A) in memory of Justin, and

(B) As a fundraising event to assist with the construction of Our Lady of Kapiti Catholic Church; a cause that was very dear to Justin, and a cause that he would totally endorse for these events.

The Subject:

That cricket was a game invented by God, to teach the English the meaning of the word eternity.

The Debaters:

A trio of cricketers and personalities, saying how exciting cricket is V’s a trio of commentators and personalities arguing how boring cricket is.

On one side. affirming, Pinky Agnew, Tim Gordon, and Karl Du Fresne, whilst on the other side Kathryn Ryan, Bryan Waddle and John (Mystery) Morrison, all arguing how exciting cricket can be.

The Programme:

Included, a full dinner, with pre dinner drinks, then dinner with wines included. Followed by the debate, then an auction and raffle.

The Theory:

That Our Lady of Kapiti Events fundraises through entertainment.
